The Military 4 Part Modular Sleep System is a 4 season sleep system that consists of a Military Issue Intermediate Sleeping Bag, a Military Issue Patrol Sleeping Bag, a Waterproof Bivy Cover and a Compression Stuff Sack that holds all three items. When combined, along with the Military Bivy Cover as an outermost layer, the 4 Part Modular Sleep System is designed for climates to -20 degrees Fahrenheit when the user is wearing a lightweight undershirt and drawers or mid‐weight shirt and drawers and standard cushion sole socks.  The Sleep System will keep you warm to -30 degrees Fahrenheit when the user is also wearing a fleece jacket, like our USMC Military Issue Pullover Jacket,  and soft shell or loft trousers.  This system will keep you warm down to -50 degrees Fahrenheit when the user is also wearing additional layers of clothing, depending on the rating of the additional layers.

By placing the Military Patrol Sleeping Bag inside the Intermediate Cold Weather Sleeping bag, then both inside the Bivy, you have a very warm and dry solution to any outdoor excursion.

The Patrol Sleeping Bag, Military Issue, is part of the Military Modular Sleep System. However, it works just as well on its own in warmer climates. The Patrol Sleeping Bag, rated for 30 to 50 degree temperatures, is light weight. This Genuine Military Issue Intermediate Cold Weather Sleeping Bag is made of water resistant, rip stop nylon and is designed for cold weather climates.  It is rated to be used in temperatures between +30 degrees to -10 degrees.  Because of its padding, it also makes a great sleeping pad if you are in warmer weather and choose to sleep on top of it instead of in it.The Intermediate Cold Weather Sleeping Bag is currently offered in the standard Black Color and includes the below specifications:

In short, the MSS (Modular Sleep System) sleeping bags and other components are constructed to be used in conjunction with each other, or separately to complete an interoperable system known as the extreme cold weather sleeping bag. The MSS is designed to provide comfort in temperatures ranging from 50°F to -50°F when wearing various layers of extreme cold weather clothing.

The Water proof Bivy Cover is produced utilizing waterproof, moisture-vapor-permeable material with all seams heat sealed. The Compression Stuff Sack is constructed with water resistant materials with adequate volume for both bags as well as the Bivy cover. This unique sack compresses the system to one cubit foot.

If you are looking for a way to keep warm either while out in the wilderness for recreation, or you find yourself in a survival situation, there is simply no better system than this to keep you warm.

Our Military Issue Modular Sleep Systems are divided into two categories: New/Like New and Very Good.  You can also purchase these individual components in other conditions separately in our Military Surplus Category.

New/Like New - This means that the Military Surplus Modular Sleep System was received by us still in its original packaging, with its original tags attached or no visible signs of use could be found.  In many cases, an item looks new and unused upon inspection, but to be sure, it is included in the Very Good Category.  In this condition, there may be slight dust or creases in the individual components due to storage by the Military.

Very Good - The item either appears to be in unused condition or has slight marks that show it was either issued and stored or was used several times at the most.  There will be no tears or rips in the fabric and all zippers and Velcro will be in fully functional condition.  The coloring will be in very good shape.  There may be dust on or folds in the fabric showing where it may have been stored for an unknown period of time.  If there are any apparent repairs, they are in this category if it is evident they were made either by the military or by the manufacturer and brought back to new specifications.  On occasion, we will have our bag manfuacturer make minor repairs to bring the item back up to specifications.
